The White House and Pentagon will investigate why President Biden wasn’t informed for days that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin had been hospitalized. Republicans demanded Austin’s resignation, but the Pentagon said he plans to stay. Austin underwent an “elective procedure” and was hospitalized twice. The Pentagon is reviewing notification procedures. Austin took responsibility for the delays and promised to do better. Senate Armed Services Committee’s Sen. Jack Reed and other members of Congress are demanding accountability in the incident. Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin and Republican lawmakers, including Sen. J.D. Vance, and Rep. Elise Stefanik, have called for Austin’s resignation. Despite calls for Austin’s resignation, White House officials maintain that Austin retains Biden’s confidence.
