The U.S. Commerce Department is set to propose banning Chinese software and hardware in connected and autonomous vehicles on American roads due to national security concerns. The Biden administration is worried about data collection by Chinese companies and potential foreign manipulation of vehicles. The public will have 30 days to comment on the proposed regulations before any final decisions are made. The ban on software is expected to take effect in 2027, while the ban on hardware would start in January 2029.
