Elon Musk-owned social media platform X has named a legal representative in Brazil to comply with a demand from the country’s top court. The firm’s lawyers announced that Rachel de Oliveira Conceicao was chosen as the legal representative, addressing a Brazilian law requirement for foreign companies operating in the country. X had previous legal representation until August, when it closed its offices. Brazil’s top court had ordered mobile and internet service providers to block X in August due to non-compliance with addressing hate speech. Musk had been in a dispute with Brazilian Justice Alexandre de Moraes over the issue, with courts previously blocking accounts for spreading misinformation and hate speech. X is now beginning to comply with court orders to remove content.
