Thailand, Vietnam Embrace Sovereign AI to Drive Economic Growth

Southeast Asia is prioritizing sovereign AI, with Thailand and Vietnam engaging in discussions with NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang. Huang announced collaborations with both countries, including an AI research and development center in Vietnam and an acquisition of VinBrain. The global economic impact of AI is projected to be nearly $20 trillion by the end of the decade.

Thailand is investing in sovereign AI infrastructure, with Prime Minister Shinawatra and Huang discussing opportunities for AI development in various sectors. NVIDIA is partnering with local universities and startups to advance AI education and training in Thailand. The importance of data sovereignty and AI development was emphasized during discussions and events in Bangkok.

In Vietnam, Huang met with Prime Minister Chinh to establish NVIDIA’s first R&D center in the country. The center will focus on software development and collaborate with local enterprises, startups, and universities to accelerate AI adoption. NVIDIA’s existing partnerships with Vietnamese universities and startups, including VinBrain, were highlighted during the visit.

AI pioneers like Jensen Huang were recognized with the 2024 VinFuture Prize in Vietnam for their contributions to deep learning advancements. The awards ceremony, broadcast nationally, acknowledged the transformative power of AI in revolutionizing various industries. Huang emphasized the impact of AI on science and technology in his acceptance speech at the event.
