President-elect Donald Trump is heading to Washington for his inauguration on a U.S. military plane provided by President Joe Biden, emphasizing traditional transition norms. Trump will arrive for celebrations on Saturday evening, ditching his usual private plane for a government one. Both planes were spotted at Palm Beach International Airport before departure.
Trump will fly on a specially configured Boeing 757-200 in blue and white colors for his less than three-hour flight to Washington Dulles International Airport. Ivanka and Jared Kushner were seen boarding the aircraft as well. This model is commonly used by the vice president, first lady, and other high-ranking officials, but presidents-elect typically use a government-provided plane for their inauguration.
In 2021, Biden had planned to arrive by train but security concerns after the Capitol riot led to the cancellation of the plan. Trump did not offer a plane, so Biden ended up taking a private jet to Washington. Photos from Trump’s 2017 inauguration show a similar U.S. aircraft being used. The White House and U.S. Air Force were not immediately available for comment.
