European Union counter-tariffs on U.S. goods will halt U.S. corn flow to Europe next week, raising costs for buyers. Uncertainty surrounds market reaction to ongoing tariffs amid negotiations. EU will impose 25% duty on corn from April 15 in response to U.S. steel and aluminum tariffs. EU mainly uses corn for livestock feed.
Between July 1, 2024, and April 6, 2025, EU imported 3.4 million metric tons of U.S. corn, up from 114,000 tons a year earlier. EU importers can turn to Ukraine and Brazil for supplies, but prices are higher. Spanish imports of U.S. corn lead this season. Feed industry concerned about rising costs due to tariffs.
