"Black Business Owners Fight Back Against Tariffs to Ensure Future Success"
Black business owners are facing economic struggles due to tariffs, with 52% reporting declining sales. Alignable’s survey of 4,000 small business owners found that Black owners were hit hardest, with 19% higher rates in June compared to May.
The industries most affected by tariffs include restaurants, retail, and manufacturing, often led by Black entrepreneurs. President Trump’s new tariffs could further impact small businesses by raising costs and reducing profits, diminishing global competitiveness.
Alignable’s CEO warns that tariffs are causing long-term damage across the economy, eroding margins and confidence. One in five entrepreneurs fear closure by 2026 if tariffs continue. Networking and pivoting strategies have helped some businesses combat the negative effects of tariffs.
Despite challenges, 45% of Black business owners are using networking to fight back against tariffs. Only 8% fear closure in 2025, lower than the national average of 20%. This resilience highlights the strength of Black business owners in the face of economic challenges.
