Geronimo Power, previously National Grid Renewables, has started construction on the 250MW Portage Solar project in Portage County, Wisconsin. This project, part of MISO market, will bring over $73m in economic benefits in 20 years, including tax revenue, job creation, local spending, and charitable donations.

Portage Solar will provide $24m in tax revenue to local county and townships, contributing to a total direct economic impact of over $100m in Wisconsin with the Apple River project. In October 2024, Geronimo Power signed a power purchase agreement with Microsoft for Portage Solar.

Geronimo Power believes renewable energy’s true value lies in positive local economic impact. The project is expected to create 300 construction jobs, focusing on hiring local Wisconsin craft labor. The company has also committed $1.25m to local charities and organizations over the project’s first 20 years.

Geronimo Power has partnered with Burns & McDonnell for the Portage Solar project, aiming to support the growing demand for reliable renewable energy as data center needs increase. Together with local unions and contractors, they aim to strengthen the community through job creation and economic growth.
