The U.S. House of Representatives will vote on a bipartisan tax bill that includes an expansion of the child tax credit and breaks for research and development. A few House Republicans had slowed down proceedings by demanding state and local tax relief, but the $78 billion measure is back on track. The bill is scheduled for a vote through a procedure known as suspension of the rules, which limits debate and requires a two-thirds majority vote to pass. Analysts estimate a 55%-65% probability of Congress enacting the tax bill, with that probability likely increasing if the bill passes the House. Republicans pushing for a SALT fix appear to have been satisfied by commitments from the House’s leadership about future consideration of a separate measure.
