The University of North Texas has more than 700 students in its master’s in data science program. Many will go on to land top tech jobs.

From Fortune Magazine:

The University of North Texas is producing an army of data scientists near Dallas as it expands its master’s program, which now has over 700 students enrolled. With a focus on high-quality education at an affordable price, UNT’s program ranks No. 2 in Fortune’s ranking of the best master’s in data science. The annual in-state tuition is around $8,640.

Students are attracted to UNT’s program due to its affordability as compared to other schools. The program helped graduates like Bhanuprasas Gollapudi, who now works at T-Mobile, gain competitive skills. The program also offers a wide range of data science courses, confidence-building research opportunities, and a supportive environment that treats students like family.

The need for data scientists and data analysts is growing rapidly, with CompTIA predicting a 266% increase in demand for these professionals over the next decade. UNT’s data science program currently has 12 faculty members, with plans to increase to 20, and emphasizes real-world learning experiences through computation, application, and data-driven intelligence.

Students are able to land jobs post-graduation at top companies such as Microsoft, Google, Amazon, and Walmart. However, faculty acknowledge that while job placements are good, it’s important to continue expanding the program’s domestic outreach to stay prepared for economic changes. The program has an acceptance rate of 26.5% and requires 36 credit hours for completion, with no standardized testing needed.
