OpenAI CEO Sam Altman debunked reports of launching a Google Search competitor, clarifying it’s not GPT-5 or a search engine but something new. He teased a Monday unveiling at 10 AM PT, coinciding with Google I/O 2024 event. ChatGPT updates will be demoed in a live stream.

Earlier reports of OpenAI’s search engine challenging Google Search on Monday turned out to be false. The new AI-powered search product will integrate ChatGPT for real-time web information access. ChatGPT aims to improve accuracy by offering direct web data extraction with citations. Initial success led to Plus subscriber access only. OpenAI sought Google employees for the special search project.
