General Motors to lay off 1,700 workers at Kansas plant, starting Nov. 18

General Motors will lay off 1,695 workers at its Fairfax Assembly plant in Kansas, with the first round of layoffs to begin Nov. 18. 686 full-time workers will be temporarily laid off, along with 250 temporary employees. Another 759 full-time workers will be temporarily laid off starting Jan. 12. GM has not yet commented on the layoffs.

In May, GM announced the pause of Cadillac XT4 production starting January 2025, leading to layoffs until production resumes in late 2025. Additionally, in August, the company revealed plans to lay off over 1,000 salaried employees at its software and service units worldwide.
