Diamond Sports, under bankruptcy since March 2023, got approval for a reorganization plan cutting its debt from $9 billion to $200 million. The plan also includes deals with Amazon Prime Video and Flutter’s FanDuel. Major League Baseball and the Atlanta Braves initially opposed the plan but settled before the court hearing. Diamond Sports will emerge from bankruptcy with over $100 million in cash. Diamond Sports now has local rights to 13 NBA teams, eight NHL teams, and six MLB teams, including the Atlanta Braves. Deals with MLB teams have shifted, with some opting to have their games produced and aired by MLB. Diamond Sports was in negotiations with the Kansas City Royals and is willing to renegotiate with teams that have left its network. Diamond Sports has seen teams exit its networks, signaling a shrinking regional sports network universe. Teams have opted for deals with local broadcasters and streaming platforms amid changes in the pay TV landscape. Diamond Sports is open to renegotiating with departing teams and is actively engaging with leagues to secure new deals.
