The New York Golf Club adds star power with Matt Fitzpatrick, Rickie Fowler, Xander Schauffele, and Cameron Young joining Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s new golf league, TGL. Cohen Private Ventures announced Eli Manning, Derek Jeter, CC Sabathia, Michael Strahan, John McEnroe, and Jimmy Fallon as limited partners. The league kicks off Jan. 7, 2025.
Steve Cohen’s family office acquired the New York Golf team last September. The team features Rickie Fowler, Xander Schauffele, Matt Fitzpatrick, and Cameron Young. Cohen aims to appeal to traditional and new golf fans, with Manning highlighting the excitement New Yorkers have for sports and the growing trends in golf participation.
TGL, a high-tech golf league by Woods, McIlroy, and Golf Channel executive Mike McCarley, will run in partnership with the PGA Tour. ESPN secured broadcast rights to the league, featuring Tour players split into six teams competing in head-to-head matches in Palm Beach, Florida. The league faced delays due to a dome collapse in 2024.
Big-name investors in TGL include Stephen Curry, Shaquille O’Neal, Kevin Durant, Shohei Ohtani, Mike Trout, Josh Allen, Serena Williams, and Lewis Hamilton. Former New York Yankees star Jeter is excited about the investment opportunity, combining his passion for golf and love for New York, looking forward to adding NYGC to New York’s sports legacy.
