How women billionaires make, spend and give away their fortunes

From CNBC: 2024-11-22 10:24:25

In a new report, it was revealed that women make up 13% of the world’s billionaires, with their numbers and share growing steadily over the past decade. The feminization of the billionaire class is attributed to factors such as female entrepreneurship, changing cultural attitudes, and wealth transfers.

Most female billionaires inherited a portion of their wealth, with 38% inheriting all their wealth. Inheritances are expected to increase, with women set to inherit up to $30 trillion in the next decade. Male billionaires are far less likely to inherit their fortunes, with only 5% inheriting their wealth.

Female billionaires tend to focus more on nonprofit and social organizations, with nearly one in five spending most of their professional time in nonprofits. They also have different financial portfolios, with more wealth in private holdings and liquid assets compared to male billionaires, who have a higher percentage of wealth in stocks.

Female billionaires are more likely to own luxury real estate and art, while male billionaires are more inclined towards owning items like private jets, yachts, and expensive cars. The gender divide extends to hobbies, with philanthropy being the top hobby for women billionaires and sports being the most popular hobby for men billionaires.
