The power and utilities sector is evolving with the creation of the Open Power AI Consortium. Led by EPRI, the consortium aims to develop AI applications to address challenges like distributed energy resources and grid load growth. Industry leaders like PPL Corporation are collaborating to innovate and enhance energy management.

Global energy consumption is set to rise by 4% annually. AI agents trained on specific sector documents can help utilities assess energy needs and improve infrastructure. The consortium’s AI model aims to accelerate interconnection studies by at least 5x and support the preparation of licenses, permits, and utility rate cases.

The Open Power AI Consortium plans to release datasets, models, and develop benchmarks for evaluating AI technologies in the energy sector.
