Maine’s secretary of state removed Trump from the state’s presidential primary ballot under the Constitution’s insurrection clause, potentially affecting Electoral College outcomes. Maine splits its four electoral votes, with Trump winning one in 2020. Other states may follow Maine’s lead, which would jeopardize Trump’s chances in 2024. The decision can be appealed in Maine’s courts, and the U.S. Supreme Court will make the final decision next year. Trump’s campaign has expressed plans to appeal the Colorado Supreme Court’s ruling as well.
