E-Mini S&P 500 futures and Nasdaq 100 E-Mini futures are up this morning, with stock index futures slightly higher in thin holiday-season trading. Trading volume across U.S. exchange-traded funds was 35% lower than the average 30-day volume. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite are both on track to close at records Thursday. Additionally, the Russell 2000 small-cap index is poised to outperform on the day.

The Dow industrials overcame an early deficit Wednesday, although a late-session drop still yielded the index’s worst session in nearly four weeks. The negative intraday momentum remained a feature of recent stock trading. Starting Wednesday, investors will focus on a slew of major economic releases, including the ADP employment number, the ISM manufacturing index, vehicle sales, and the December employment report.
