Brazilian Taylor Swift fan died of heat exhaustion, forensics report shows

From Fortune:

A forensic report has revealed that heat exhaustion was the cause of death for a Brazilian fan who attended a Taylor Swift concert. Ana Clara Benevides, 23, passed out during the concert last November and died at a local hospital. The temperatures that day in Rio de Janeiro were at about 40 degrees Celsius. The report indicated that Benevides’ heat exposure led to a cardiorespiratory arrest, and she did not have preexisting conditions or substance abuse that could have led to her death.

The organizers distributed thousands of bottles of water to fans, but many accused authorities of failing to provide enough water and not allowing fans to bring their own water into the stadium. Rio’s public prosecutor has opened a criminal investigation, and the company responsible for organizing the event will be called to testify. Swift said the case had left her with a “shattered heart,” while Benevides’ family seeks justice for her death.
