Consumer Sector Update for 12/28/2023: PENN, BABA, BTI, XLP, XLY

Consumer stocks are on the rise pre-bell Thursday, with XLY advancing 0.2% and XLP up 0.1%. Penn Entertainment shareholder HG Vora Capital Management seeks seats on the casino company’s board, causing PENN to rise over 3% in premarket activity.

Alibaba’s bid to dismiss a lawsuit over the sale of counterfeit toys was rejected by a US judge, with BABA marginally higher pre-bell Thursday. British American Tobacco and affiliates were fined $110 million by Nigeria’s FCCPC for alleged market dominance abuse, causing BTI to fall 0.3%.
