Elon Musk’s X fails to block California’s content moderation law By Reuters
From Investing.com:
Elon Musk’s X, formerly known as Twitter, has failed to prevent a California law that requires social media companies to publicly disclose their content moderation practices. The law mandates semiannual reporting on objectionable posts and addresses concerns. Judge William Shubb dismissed X’s lawsuit, stating that the requirement is not unjustified despite placing a compliance burden.
X’s monthly U.S. ad revenue has plummeted at least 55% year-over-year each month since Musk’s takeover in October 2022. The platform’s content moderation rules have come under scrutiny, leading to several companies pausing advertising on the platform. In Europe, the EU is investigating X over suspected breaches of obligations under the Digital Services Act (DSA), particularly in relation to posts following Hamas’ attacks on Israel.
X remains committed to complying with the DSA and is cooperating with the regulatory process. Following the attacks, X and other social media companies were inundated with fake images and misleading information. The case is X Corp v Bonta, U.S. District Court, Eastern District of California, No. 2:23-cv–01939.
