Houthi militants in Yemen have increased attacks on vessels in the Red Sea to support Hamas in Gaza. Shipping companies have rerouted ships out of security concerns. Many companies have diverted ships around the Cape of Good Hope, with a global impact expected into 2024.

CMA CGM is gradually increasing the number of vessels transiting the Suez Canal for security purposes. Other companies are doing the opposite. Many are choosing to avoid the Red Sea area until the situation improves, adding 1-2 weeks to voyages. Japanese companies are monitoring the situation closely.
