Mike Nussbaum, known as the oldest professional actor in America, has died at the age of 99. The cause of death was old age and he passed away at his Chicago home just before his 100th birthday. Nussbaum was recognized by the Actor’s Equity Association union as the oldest professional actor and had a prolific career on both stage and in film. He was remembered as a good man who raised his children to care about others and respect justice. Throughout his long career, Nussbaum remained committed to acting, performing into his 90s such as his role as Albert Einstein in the play “Relativity.” He spent over 50 years acting on stages in the Chicago area and won a Drama Desk Award for his performance in “Glengarry Glen Ross” in 1984. Although primarily a stage actor, he also appeared in movies like “Field of Dreams” and “Men in Black.” His friends and colleagues remember him as a talented and dedicated actor, whose sheer talent transcended his performances. A private funeral service is planned with a public memorial service to follow next year.
