From Fortune: OpenAI enlists Apple iPhone designer Tang Tan to help Sam Altman, Jony Ive with AI device
From Fortune:
Legendary designer Jony Ive and OpenAI’s Sam Altman are collaborating on a new artificial intelligence hardware project. They have enlisted Apple Inc. veteran Tang Tan to shape the look and capabilities of new products, and Sam Altman will be providing the software underpinnings for the new devices. Tang Tan will be joining Ive’s design firm LoveFrom to work on the hardware engineering of the project. The project is focused on developing AI devices for the home.
Apple is losing design talent, with about 14 members of Jony Ive’s former team having left since 2019, and only about six designers remaining at Apple. Rather than naming a new executive to lead design, Apple’s chief operating officer Jeff Williams was tapped to oversee the company’s designers directly. LoveFrom has partnered with several high-profile clients and has attracted over 20 former Apple employees, and Shota Aoyagi, another member of Ive’s industrial design team, has recently joined the design firm.
