Nasdaq, Inc.: Facebook’s Meta fined for breaches of Italian gambling ads ban
From Nasdaq, Inc.:
Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook, has been fined 5.85 million euros in Italy for advertising gambling on its platforms. The fines were issued in connection with profiles, accounts, and sponsored content on Facebook and Instagram that promoted betting and games with cash prizes. AGCOM, the communications watchdog, also fined YouTube and Twitch earlier this month for similar breaches. YouTube was fined 2.25 million euros and Twitch was fined 900,000 euros. There was no immediate comment from Meta regarding the fines. This is part of Italy’s efforts to enforce a ban on gambling advertising, and it reflects a broader trend of tech companies facing scrutiny and penalties for their content and advertising practices.
