Nasdaq: NY Times sues OpenAI, Microsoft for infringing copyrighted works

The New York Times is suing OpenAI and Microsoft for copyright infringement to train AI technologies, claiming they used millions of articles without permission. OpenAI and Microsoft allegedly “free-rode” on The Times as their content was used to build products without permission or payment. While the Times seeks unspecified damages and the destruction of AI models, other parties like best-selling novelists also have lawsuits challenging OpenAI’s use of their books was used to train AI. Microsoft invests $13 billion in OpenAI, valuing it at more than $80 billion, making them accused and sued for copyright infringement.
