Neighboring New Jersey towns elect brothers as mayors

From Fortune:

Two brothers, John and Vince Giovannitti, will be taking on the roles of mayors of neighboring towns, Paulsboro and Gibbstown, in New Jersey. John, 61, will be serving as the mayor of Paulsboro, while Vince, 57, has been reelected for a second term as the mayor of Gibbstown. The brothers have described their simultaneous mayoral positions as a “happy coincidence” and a natural step after decades of serving their communities.

The mayors emphasize the close and interconnected nature of their communities, with both towns being described as “really one big community” and deeply intertwined. They also point out that being siblings aids the necessary collaboration between mayors of neighboring towns that share certain services. Additionally, the brothers, who are both Democrats, have deep roots in their towns and have never lived anywhere else.

As mayors, they have low-paying positions, with Vince receiving a salary of $12,314 and John earning between $7,000 and $9,100. John is also employed as an assistant principal and athletic director at Paulsboro High School, while Vince previously worked as a special education teacher and guidance counselor before retiring in 2021.
