Nuke’s OpenUSD Enhancements Ring in a 3D Renaissance

From NVIDIA:

3D designers and creators are using OpenUSD to transform workflows. The latest release of Nuke from Foundry provides increased support for OpenUSD, enabling advanced compositing and improved interoperability. Artist Jacob Zirkle used OpenUSD to create a sci-fi ship, streamlining his workflow and saving time. Other artists, including Edward McEvenue, are also using OpenUSD with Nuke to create stunning 3D visuals.

NVIDIA has integrated OpenUSD and Nuke into their 3D workflows, enabling a fully OpenUSD-based pipeline and custom tooling on the NVIDIA Omniverse platform. Artists used various software alongside OpenUSD, building the “Da Vinci Workshop” project to inspire greater OpenUSD use. The OpenUSD dataset is now available on the Omniverse launcher for free, promoting collaboration across applications.

The latest updates to Nuke bring significant workflow enhancements for working with OpenUSD. New features, such as the Scene Graph Popup, the GeoMerge node, and the search and filter feature in the main 3D scene graph, simplify workspace navigation and provide greater control over geometry and OpenUSD layers. Foundry is also embracing OpenUSD across its other products, including the latest updates to Katana 7.0.

NVIDIA and Foundry are members of the Alliance for OpenUSD (AOUSD), an organization dedicated to an open-source future using the powerful framework. To learn more, explore the AOUSD forum and check out resources on OpenUSD. Artists are encouraged to share their Nuke and Omniverse work as part of the latest community #WinterArtChallenge for a chance to be featured on NVIDIA’s social channels. Get started with NVIDIA Omniverse and stay updated on Instagram, Medium, Twitter, forums, Discord server, Twitch, and YouTube channels.
