NVIDIA (NVDA) Launches China-Specific Chip Amid US Restrictions

From Nasdaq:

NVIDIA launches a China-specific version of its powerful gaming chip to comply with U.S. export restrictions. The RTX 4090D has lower AI performance and will only be sold in China. This move may help NVIDIA overcome U.S. export restrictions, as it aims to boost sales in China. The company is also expecting its fourth-quarter fiscal 2024 revenues to reach $20 billion from $6.05 billion in the year-ago quarter due to the rising demand for AI technology.

Due to increased trade restrictions, NVIDIA faces challenges in exporting its products to China. The U.S. government has imposed restrictions on the sale of various AI chips and manufacturing equipment to China, which may impact NVIDIA’s business. As a result, the company is forced to launch a less powerful version of its gaming chip specifically for the Chinese market to ensure compliance with U.S. export rules. NVIDIA’s robust stock price performance has been driven by hopes that the company will benefit from growing investments in AI.

As AI investments surge, companies like Meta Platforms, Intel, and UiPath are making significant investments in AI technology. Meta is set to launch its own AI model, Llama 2, and Code Llama, while Intel is focusing on AI chips for data centers and personal computers. UiPath is enhancing its platform with AI-centric services to drive top-line growth in 2024. With global AI spending expected to surpass $300 billion by 2026, companies are seizing the immense potential of the AI sector to stay competitive in the digital landscape.
