Sports gambling is legal in 38 states, but experts don’t see it spreading soon

From Fortune:

Several states remain illegal for sports gambling, and a social media campaign in one, called “Let MO Play,” is rallying for legalization. Other states have made more than $4 billion in taxes from sports gambling since 2018, and another state, Vermont, will allow it starting Jan. 11. However, expansion into the remaining states is uncertain due to political resistance and competing financial interests of existing gambling operators.

The sale of the Dallas Mavericks has raised speculations for the gambling industry in Texas. In Oklahoma, the governor has announced a plan for sports gambling, but it’s unsupported by the tribes he’s been fighting. Minnesota and Missouri have struggled with legislation for betting, with opposing interests from tribal casinos, horse racing tracks, and video gaming terminals.
