Time Fortune Media LLC: Marvel’s superhero movies are no longer guaranteed box office blockbusters as the movie industry hits ‘an inflection point’

From Time Fortune Media LLC:

Steven Spielberg drew attention to the decline of superhero movies. Although Marvel remains strong, 2023 saw a successful non-superhero lineup, with original films “Barbie” and “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” leading the box office. DC and Marvel both had disappointing movies, while a writers and actors strike caused release delays and designed films. Analysts predict a slow 2024. Despite the success of original films like “Barbie,” Hollywood is not seeing the same output as before. The strike has caused several films to be delayed.

The rise of streaming platforms is also changing the film industry. Streaming audiences are now more open to different types of films not typically seen in theaters, meaning changes may be coming for traditional blockbusters and incentivizing creativity from studios. Although Westerns underwent a slow decline in popularity, they continue to be made, and the same may happen for superhero movies, which are seeing a shift in audience tastes. This might mark the end of the superhero movie’s heyday.
