The U.N. peacekeeping mission in Mali, MINUSMA, is set to complete its withdrawal from the country, leaving behind only a small team to oversee asset transportation and equipment disposal. Security experts warn that rebel groups and the army could now engage in a struggle for control, potentially further destabilizing Mali. The mission was launched in 2013 in response to violent insurrection and a military coup. Since then, Mali has become the epicenter of a violent movement in West Africa.
