American Airlines frequent flyer changes for 2024
From CNBC:
American Airlines is not changing the requirements for earning elite status in the coming year. Despite increasing the threshold for gold status for the 2023-2024 year, the airline will not make any changes for the next earning period. Loyalty programs are big for airlines, generating billions annually. American will extend certain benefits exclusively to AAdvantage members, including standby flights, flight holds, and lounge passes. AAdvantage members will get six extra months to use trip credits and partial refunds for canceling basic economy tickets. Loyalty programs have become critical for airlines, particularly during the pandemic, as they earn money from various sources. United, Delta, and American have all revamped their loyalty programs to reward big spenders and have increased the requirements for earning elite status. Delta reversed some changes to its Sky Club access and restrictiveness in response to customer complaints. Finally, American will allow customers to earn miles for cabin upgrades and redeem them on partner airlines. Customers striving for elite status will receive a bonus after earning 15,000 loyalty points. Gold status requires 40,000 points.
