Americans Begin to Believe Inflation Is Cooling
From Wall Street Journal:
Inflation is on the decline as consumer prices rose 0.3% in December from November, marking a 3.4% increase from a year earlier. However, core prices, which exclude food and energy, were up 3.9% from a year earlier, the first time they rose less than 4% since May 2021. This comes as people’s inflation expectations are also moving lower. The latest report from the Labor Department shows a positive trend, with core prices showing a steady decrease.
This indicates a significant development in the ongoing battle against inflation, as both consumer prices and core prices have shown improvements in year-over-year increases. The efforts to better capture inflation’s underlying trend seem to be making an impact, with core prices rising less than 4% for the first time since May 2021. This is a positive sign for the economy as we work to stabilize inflation rates.
