From Fortune:
Barbara Corcoran of ABC’s Shark Tank addresses ageism in the workplace in an exclusive broadcast for her Patreon subscribers. She advises over 50 job seekers to show energy and vitality. Corcoran herself hires older workers and finds they often have more wisdom and life experience than younger workers.
It’s hard to find work as an older American. The culture’s fixation on youth has had negative impacts on older people politically, economically, and socially. The bad news is that ageism, discrimination, and age-related bias can be self-directed too, with equally bad outcomes.
A study by the University of Michigan found that 4 in 5 adults aged 50 to 80 experience ageism in one or more forms every day. Those who regularly experienced more forms of ageism were more likely to suffer worse physical and mental health. Older women tend to bear the brunt of age-related bias, especially as they approach menopause. Women face a much higher bar with regard to ageism and experience it earlier and more frequently than men.
