Bill Ackman, Elon Musk, Mark Cuban debate DEI efforts
From Time Magazine:
The world’s richest man, Elon Musk, took to X to criticize diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts, calling it “just another word for racism.” This came in support of hedge fund billionaire Bill Ackman, who pressured Harvard president Claudine Gay to resign. Gay received intense criticism for her handling of anti-Semitism on campus. Musk and other billionaires have since engaged in a heated debate over DEI, with Mark Cuban defending it as a business strategy.
Musk, who owns X, has been a frequent critic of DEI and called it “propaganda words for racism, sexism, and other -isms.” Ackman also weighed in, calling DEI racist because “reverse racism is racism,” even against white people. Despite the controversy, Gay defended her commitment to confronting hate and upholding scholarly rigor in her resignation note. The resignation of Gay and the debate over DEI continue to stir controversy and debate among billionaires on X.
The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission previously filed a lawsuit against Tesla alleging it failed to investigate complaints of racist conduct. This further adds to the controversy surrounding Musk’s criticism of DEI and Billionaire debate, further raising questions about the role of DEI and racism in the workplace.
