Blank Street Coffee bets on subscription program
From NBCUniversal:
Blank Street Coffee continues to grow in popularity with its cheap lattes and cold brew, now offering a subscription program called Blank Street Regulars, which has already drawn 5,000 paying members and a waiting list of 4,000. The company was valued at $177 million as of March but has seen criticism for its rapid expansion and venture funding.
Its subscriptions range from $8.99 to $17.99 a week, offering basic drinks or a wider range. To manage losses, the program caps the total number of drinks per week at 14. The CEO estimates that 30-40% of their customer base will become members, and the chain is working to increase capacity for more customers.
Blank Street also recently launched Regulars in London, where it faces competition, but believes its coffee subscription program will win over customers who care about quality. The chain chose a subscription program over a loyalty program due to its youth, giving it flexibility in program design, and plans to expand further in the future.
