Boeing to revise 737 Max 9 inspection instructions

Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 Max 9 aircraft grounded at Los Angeles International Airport after panel blew out midflight last week. Boeing to revise inspection instructions for 737 Max 9 after preliminary checks by Alaska and United Airlines revealed loose hardware. FAA grounded dozens of jets, Boeing issued instructions for inspecting planes, pending FAA approval.

Multi-operator messages containing instructions for Boeing 737-9 Max inspection to be revised based on feedback from airlines and inspectors. FAA conducting a thorough review of revised instructions before planes can safely return to service. Safety, not speed, will determine the timeline for returning Boeing 737-9 Max to operation.

Boeing in close contact with customers and FAA, making updates based on their feedback and requirements. National Transportation Safety Board investigating Alaska Airlines incident to determine what caused blown-out door plug on 737 Max 9. All 12 stops that help the door stay in place became disengaged, allowing it to blow out of the fuselage.

NTSB will analyze the door further at its lab in Washington and has not recovered the bolts that hold it in place. The Oregon school teacher found the door.
