Cal-Maine stock drops, as lower egg prices hit quarterly results
From Dow Jones & Company:
Shares of Cal-Maine Foods Inc. fell after quarterly earnings and sales missed expectations due to lower egg prices. Quarterly net income dropped to $16.6 million from $198.3 million, while revenue fell to $523.2 million from $801.7 million. The year-over-year egg prices declined by 22.3% in November, but still rose by 2.2% from October to November. The company also reported an avian flu outbreak in its Kansas facilities, resulting in approximately 1.5 million laying hens and 240,000 pullets being depopulated. Cal-Maine also faces a jury verdict finding it and others conspired to raise egg prices from 1998 to 2008.
