CDC says JN.1 variant accounts for about 62% of COVID cases in US By Reuters
From Investing.com:
The CDC reported that the COVID subvariant JN.1 now accounts for 62% of cases in the U.S., making it the most widely circulated variant. It is also dominant in Europe and rising in Asia. Hospitalizations increased by 20.4% in the week ending Dec. 30. There is no evidence that JN.1 causes more severe disease, and current vaccines are expected to increase protection against it.
In December, the World Health Organization classified JN.1 as a “variant of interest” with low risk to public health. The predicted prevalence of JN.1 cases in the U.S. increased from 39-50% to 55-68% as of Jan. 5. The agency reassured that current vaccines are expected to offer increased protection against JN.1.
