China and U.S. are working on creating a more stable trade environment. Wang and Raimondo had a call earlier, focusing on stabilizing business expectations. U.S. has imposed tech export controls on China companies. China said they have acted on 60% of a policy supporting foreign businesses.
Challenges are growing for China’s economy, with a slowdown in growth and a “complex and severe” trade environment expected this year. Foreign direct investment dropped 8% to 1.13 trillion yuan in 2023. China has sought to improve foreign investment, with a focus on being seen as an opportunity rather than a risk.
China has acted on 60% of a policy supporting foreign businesses. Capital at the World Economic Forum has said there is increased access and new business terms in China. Most Fortune 500 CEOs with business in China plan to travel there more this year. These are seen as positive signs for the Chinese economy in an increasingly challenging international trade environment.
