Chipmakers Lead, Markets Slip Overall

Stock indices were down again, with the Dow -231 points and the S&P 500 -0.37%. However, A.I.-oriented chipmakers like AMD and NVIDIA saw gains of +8.3% and +3%, respectively. 10-year bond yields rose to 4.06%, causing inversion with the 2-year. Interactive Brokers had mixed Q4 earnings, causing its shares to drop -3% in late trading. Synopsys offering $35 billion for ANSYS could create a major player in the engineering software space. Tomorrow brings Retail Sales and earnings reports for Chas Schwab, Prologis and Alcoa.
