Chipotle aims to hire 19,000 workers ahead of spring
From CNBC:
Chipotle Mexican Grill plans to hire 19,000 new employees for the spring season. This is 27% higher than last year. The company needs more workers during the spring to meet higher demand. Chipotle currently has over 110,000 workers, but attracting new workers has been difficult for the restaurant industry in recent years.
The pandemic caused hundreds of thousands of restaurant jobs to disappear. Industry veterans sought safety from Covid-19 in white-collar or warehouse jobs. In September, the restaurant workforce finally bounced back to pre-pandemic levels. Chipotle aims to attract and retain younger workers by offering new benefits such as matching contributions to their 401(k) if they make student loan payments and a Credi.ai debit card that builds credit without fees or interest.
The company is expecting a busier spring than usual, despite recent menu price hikes. The spring weather lures back Chipotle customers who stayed away during the winter months. Chipotle plans to report its fourth-quarter earnings after the bell on February 6th.
