Corning Issues Q1 Guidance

Corning Incorporated expects first-quarter core sales of approximately $3.1 billion and core EPS in the range of $0.32 to $0.38, anticipating the first quarter to be the low point of the year. Fourth quarter GAAP net sales were $2.99 billion, down 12% from last year, with core sales declining 10% to $3.27 billion.

Fourth quarter GAAP net loss was $40 million or $0.05 per share, compared to a loss of $36 million or $0.04 per share the prior year. Core EPS declined to $0.39 from $0.47, not meeting the analysts’ estimate of $0.39 per share.

Analysts, who on average estimated the company’s revenue at $3.25 billion, were disappointed with the actual core sales of $3.27 billion.
