Daily Markets: Tesla Earnings and 4Q 2023 GDP

Asian-Pacific equity markets finished mixed today, with India’s SENSEX falling 0.80% and China’s Shanghai Composite closing 3.03% higher. European markets are also mixed, while U.S. equity futures point to a mixed market open. The U.S. 4Q 2023 GDP grew 3.3%, higher than expected. The European Central Bank is expected to hold its interest rate at 4.5%. Domestic reports today include durable orders and new home sales, expected to rise. Sectors were mostly lower yesterday aside from energy, which gained 1.43%. Technology and Communication Services also saw gains. Tesla shares are under pressure following its latest earnings report. News from the IPO front should be checked out for those interested in upcoming IPOsAfter the market close today, Capital One, Intel, Visa, and other companies are expected to report quarterly results. Tomorrow, reports are expected from Japan and the US on various economic indicators including CPI, personal income & spending, and pending home sales.
