Dan Scavino, Trump’s former deputy chief of staff, has reportedly testified before Special Counsel Jack Smith’s team after initially refusing to cooperate with the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riots. Scavino has provided crucial information about Donald Trump’s state of mind during the attack, according to Mary Trump.

Scavino revealed that Trump was not interested in stopping the violence on Jan. 6 and instead became enraged over the alleged election theft. Even as ex-Vice President Mike Pence was moved to a secure location due to potential danger, Trump’s response reflected a willingness to allow more harm.

The testimonies by Scavino and Trump’s personal aide, Nick Luna, are deemed damning for Donald Trump as they shed light on his intentions during the Capitol riots and challenge his “ignorance” defense. Mary Trump emphasized the testimony will prove critical for Special Counsel Jack Smith in the Jan. 6 case.

Former federal prosecutor Harry Litman suggested that the alleged statement by Scavino serves as a devastating blow to Donald Trump as it destroyed his ignorance defense. This could have a significant impact on Trump’s chances of winning the Republican nomination and eventually the presidency. He currently leads in opinion polls over fellow GOP primary contestants and President Joe Biden in a hypothetical two-way match-up.
