Edward Snowden has endorsed a legal defense fund for Roman Storm, co-founder of the embattled cryptocurrency mixing service Tornado Cash. Storm faces money laundering charges and is setting up a fundraiser for legal representation. Snowden has urged his followers to support Storm, emphasizing that privacy is not a crime.
Advocates for Storm and others arrested have highlighted the potential implications for open-source software creation. Last year, Snowden criticized the US government’s actions against Tornado Cash as “deeply illiberal and profoundly authoritarian.” He also recently took a shot at JP Morgan CEO Jamie Dimon following the SEC’s approval of a Bitcoin ETF.
