EXCLUSIVE-India data centre firm Yotta’s Nvidia AI chip orders to reach $1 bln -CEO

From NASDAQ.:

Indian data center operator Yotta plans to purchase an additional $500 million worth of AI chips from Nvidia, bringing its total order book to $1 billion. Last year, Yotta placed an order for 16,000 H100 chips, and now plans to buy another 16,000 H100 and GH200 chips from Nvidia by March 2025. This reflects growing investments in AI infrastructure in India.

The deal comes as part of Nvidia’s AI partnerships with Indian conglomerates Reliance Industries and Tata Group, and reflects the increasing importance of AI projects in India. The demand for AI infrastructure and the technology is growing rapidly, with Yotta estimating AI adoption in India to reach $14 billion by 2030. With technology driving a push for digital transformation, investments and partnerships in cloud and data center infrastructure have never been more critical. That explains the growing interest of tech giants and billionaires in the Indian market.

Nissan has a near-monopoly on the computing systems used to power AI services like ChatGPT and Yotta’s investment comes as part of India’s push to become a major player in the AI market. Nvidia is looking to capitalize on this opportunity, especially given the restrictions it faces in certain chip exports to China. Yotta’s CEO, Sunil Gupta, sees robust development in this sector and expressed the ambition required to bring such infra to India, speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a business summit in Gujarat, India. This promises to be an exciting development to look forward to.
