FAA halts production expansion, OKs inspection instructions

The FAA has stopped Boeing’s 737 Max production expansion after a door plug blew out during an Alaska Airlines flight. FAA Administrator Mike Whitaker stated that Boeing will not resume normal production until quality control issues are resolved. Boeing’s shares fell 4% in after-hours trading. The FAA also approved inspection instructions for the Max 9 aircraft, which had been grounded after a fuselage panel blew out in Portland, Oregon on January 5, causing United and Alaska to cancel hundreds of flights. United and Alaska’s CEOs expressed frustration with Boeing after the issue.
