FAA to audit Boeing production line after 737 Max 9 accident

From CNBC:

The Federal Aviation Administration is conducting an audit of Boeing’s production line following an incident where a door plug blew off an Alaska Airlines 737 Max 9. The agency will potentially use an independent third party to oversee Boeing’s inspections and quality of manufacturing. This comes after the FAA grounded over 170 Boeing 737 Max 9s, the majority of the global fleet. The agency will also evaluate risks around Boeing’s ability to self-monitor quality control and aspects of airplane production, following multiple production-related issues identified in recent years. Earlier this week, Boeing’s CEO acknowledged the company’s “mistake” and said it would move past the incident. Despite the incident causing no serious injuries, it has led to increased scrutiny on Boeing’s quality problems and on regulators that oversee the industry.
